Jason Voorhees (Kane Hodder) – Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)

We continue our trek into the Hodder era, and join Mr. Voorhees on a boat heading to Canada…er, New York. Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan is unique in the franchise, in that it, obviously, takes place almost entirely on board a ship…the S.S. Lazarus. It's also the first film that brings Jason far away from his precious camp, and into another state. It came out in 1989 and was written and directed by Rob Hedden.

Listener Mail

“Would the movie have been better if they had been able to spend more time shooting in New York?”

“I think I read this, maybe Fangoria? But that they intentionally filmed overly gory kills AND filmed something closer to what they had in mind, as a way to get some blood past the censors… RE: They presented exaggerated kills to MPAA, knowing full and well anything, no matter how tame, would be ordered back to the editing table for an R rating. Where they had the original concept already ready for presentation #2. Mention that. (wish part 7 did that)”
